Matilda Convertino

Appearance and Physical Traits

Matilda stands at six feet and two inches tall and has a lean, lanky build. Despite the tallness of her frame, Matilda's posture attempts to make her seem smaller, and her stature is mostly timid and reserved. She is white with a warm undertone to her skin, with freckles on her face and shoulders. She has scars from self harming on her left arm and on the upper part of both thighs and a cyberpunk tattoo sleeve covering her right arm. She does not shave, and has body visible body hair on her chest, stomach, arms and armpits, and legs. She has a stick'n'poke tattoo in the shape of a heart with the letter "A" inside of it on her ankle. Her hair is dark ginger with brown undertones, wavy, and long enough to reach halfway down her back when it's down- though she usually wears it in a high ponytail, leaving side bangs to frame her face. Her face is sharp and angular, featuring a prominent jawline and equally prominent cheekbones. She has a long aquiline nose, with a bump at the bridge. Her eyebrows are full and each feature a piercing at the end. Her lips are thin and frequently chapped, also featuring one lip ring on the left. She has acne on her forehead and near her chin. Her teeth appear yellowed and there is some visible decay on her front teeth, her bottom front teeth are crooked and one tooth in the row protrudes forward.

Matilda can usually be seen in a black tank top layered over a bralette or sports bra with short, ripped, dark wash denim shorts and black, knee-high converse. She will occasionally wear a cropped tank top or a cropped band T-shirt over the tank top.

Background

Matilda was born to Sadie Fisher and Joshua Convertino and legally named Theodore Convertino. Matilda does not know and has never been in contact with Joshua, but had her ordinary expenses met through regular child support payments up to her high school graduation. Matilda's early childhood was characterized by neglect, parental attention and guidance supplemented with television and the internet. She was exposed to substance abuse by way of carelessness and was subjected to multiple failed child services interventions through her elementary and middle school years. As a young trans girl being percieved as an effeminate "boy," she was an easy target for and regularly subject to bullying at school.

Matilda's home life as she enters her preteen and teenage years is saturated with strangers coming and going from her house, leaving her spending much of her time in her room. This leads her to begin experimenting with cigarettes and small amounts of alcohol, as well as internet experimentation with her sexuality. Early in middle school she met Adelia Flowers and they quickly bonded, with Adelia soon joining Matilda in her experimentation. Matilda came across the definition for and subsequently came out as bisexual in seventh grade, around the time her mother becomes pregnant. Shortly after, she came out again as a girl. After an initially supportive response from Adelia and her school friends, she decides to share her discovery with her mother, who reacts poorly and emotionally. After this reaction escalates quickly into a fight, Matilda's mother disowns her.

After seeking solace at Adelia's house and staying with her for a few days after being disowned, Matilda reaches the conclusion that her mom cannot legally enforce kicking her out without consequence and will not contact the police if she stays out for multiple days in a row. This starts a new set of habits for Matilda as she begins smoking weed and starts to drink more. This event also creates a new level of closeness between Matilda and Adelia, and in freshman year of high school, Matilda asks Adelia to homecoming. Matilda then ends up invited to a homecoming afterparty that Adelia's friend Sicily is throwing as Adelia's "plus one." When Matilda brings weed to the party, her and Adelia's popularity for the night skyrockets and when a classmate asks Matilda if she sells it, she answers yes. Also at this party, Matilda meets Sicily's older sister: an online beauty influencer named Paris who takes a notable interest in Matilda and becomes one of her regular buyers. Matilda develops a crush on her almost instantly.

The further into high school she gets, the less time Matilda spends at home. She delivers weed to Paris, who insists that she stay for multiple hours at a time in order to avoid suspicion. The other portion of time she spends at Adelia's home, who she begins dating after homecoming. The time she does spend at home usually ends in some sort of fight with her mom. She also becomes increasingly uninterested in school, ditching as frequently as she can. Over their sophomore and junior year of high school, Matilda and Adelia begin to slowly grow apart, and Matilda slowly starts to fail her classes.

In the middle of Matilda's junior year, Paris offers to start tutoring Matilda in order to save her grades and set her back on track to graduate. When Matilda agrees, Paris immediately jumps to take advantage of Matilda's crush on her, claiming she's now "old enough" to smoke with her and that they can do so as a reward for studying. This raises high suspicion from Adelia, who accuses Matilda of cheating on her. To prove her love and commitment to their relationship, Matilda gets her first tattoo- a self-done stick'n'poke of the letter "A" in a heart.

After Matilda turns eighteen and graduates, Paris "rewards" her with a fake ID and starts taking her to clubs and parties, which causes Adelia to finally break up with her. Seeking a harder high to comfort her through the heartbreak, Matilda starts doing cocaine with Paris and gets addicted quickly. It doesn't take long afterwards for Paris to start making advances on Matilda and confess that she's been waiting for Matilda to be old enough to be with her. Shortly after, Paris features Matilda on her "glow up" video series, and in the video, makes several derogatory remarks about Matilda's identity as a trans woman (which she regularly does to Matilda off camera, under the guise of "punching up"), as well as a comment about how she has been friends with Matilda for several years. This leads many of her followers to rightfully speculate about the nature of her relationship with Matilda, which essentially ends her career as an influencer overnight.

Blaming Matilda for this development, Paris takes her to rehab against her will, breaks up with her, and tells her not to come back. After leaving rehab, Matilda contacts Adelia for a place to stay, who reluctantly agrees. After a few heart to heart talks, Matilda and Adelia start their relationship back up hot and heavy. Matilda starts doing cocaine again and after a few months staying with Adelia, starts selling it out of her apartment. Once Adelia finds this out, she breaks up with Matilda and kicks her out.

Personality and Characteristics

While Matilda's general demeanor is stoic and even absent-seeming, she is cheerful and open once conversation is initiated.

Matilda likes live music shows, moshing, drinking hard, and rollerskating. She loves gaming when she can get her hands on a console, and she's not half bad at playing guitar either. She wishes she was better with computers. She doesn't like talking about Paris and she REALLY doesn't like people asking her, "aren't you that girl that got that one influencer cancelled?" She hates rehab and hospitals. Some of Matilda's mannerisms include knuckle popping, picking at her nails/cuticles, bouncing her leg or tapping her foot when sitting, and picking at bumps on her arms or face/picking at her acne.

Matilda's financial habits are mediocre at best, as she frequently struggles with prioritizing bills over impulsive purchases. Lots of times these impulsive purchases are drugs, and her substance use habits could classify her as a "functional addict" most of the time. She also has a bad habit of not communicating when her feelings are hurt, usually isolating herself in response to conflict as opposed to confronting it. She likes to take out pent up anger out by getting in fights or going on benders (or both). She doesn't sleep well and never has.
